The Hokanji Temple, also known as the “Yasaka Pagoda”, has been well loved by people for many years. This temple was built by Prince Shotoku, gathering many a religious people; it is close to “Nene no Michi” and “Kiyomizudera Temple”, and it is a landmark that is always present in any landscape viewed from Higashiyama. Looking at the beautiful and shiny Yasaka Pagoda from within the good old streets of the city will give you a strong realization that you are actually standing in Kyoto.
The Yasaka Pagoda is approximately 40m in height, but being in a city with low buildings such as Kyoto, has turned it into the city’s symbol since ancient times, becoming as symbolic as the Kyoto Tower.
