Hokai-ji Temple / Kamakura Kanagawa

When the troops of Nitta Yoshisada attacked Kamakura, it is said that the last regent, Hojo Takatoki and about 870 members of his clan, committed mass suicide in a cave known as “Harakiri Yagura”, which is situated southeast of this temple.
The Emperor Godaigo ordered Ashikaga Takauji to build this temple on the site of the Hojo Clan’s mansion, in memory of those who died, and to create an ascetic exercise facility for priests,
Flowers bloom in the grounds all year round, andthis temple is famous as “The LespedezaTemple” as in September, there is a profusion of white flowers, when the lespedeza(bush clover )are in bloom.
